I will bet most of your friends don’t use torque wrenches, and they will say something like “guten tight” or “ cross threaded or torqued, tight is tight.” Well, this is what separates your friends from us. It is true that some torque values are probably more important than others. The torque of your connecting rods, will be more valuable than the torque of a clamp holding an electrical clip in place. Either way, as mechanics we deal with torques on a day to day basis.
I'm not going to go into what torque is, or the purpose of it, but if you want to read our older blog on how torque works, you can click this link:
One of the reasons many people may not want to use a torque wrench, is because finding the actual torque values can be a journey. It can stop you from what you are doing and send you down 600 page maintenance manual looking for the exact torque.
We decided to change all that and develop a BMW specific torque value book for each chassis. Currently we are offering these handy books for E30 and E36.
Each book is limited edition and only a few hundred are made in a color specific to that chassis. Each book is easy to read and is broken down by section:
AC system
Automatic Transmission
Body
Brakes
Cooling System
Driveshaft & Differential
Electrical
Engine
Exhaust
Manual Transmission
Suspension & Steering
General Torque Guide
Notes
We have went through over 600 pages of manuals to pull out all the torque values for just about any job you need. Some examples include:
Oil drain plug
Brake calipers to rear trailing arm
Thermostat housing to the engine block
Font seat to the floor
Outer tie rod end to steering arm
Torque values are showing in inch lbs, foot lbs, Nm, and degrees.
You will be able to look up any torque value for your car in seconds, rather than minutes or hours. This is a great book to give as a gift or throw in the top drawer of your toolbox.
*More chassis will be coming in 2023.
